San José Dance Theatre (SJDT) and its former Artistic Director, Mark Foehringer announce that Mr. Foehringer departed SJDT’s Artistic Director position at the end of last year. Mark Foehringer joined SJDT as Artistic Director to expand SJDT’s dance curriculum and relaunch San José Dance Theatre’s programs in 2022. The revamped curriculum for all ages and pre-professional skill levels includes a
successful adult division with full ballet classes organized for different skill levels.
“It has been a pleasure to work with the professional dance company and faculty at SJDT where we saw student’s dance skills bloom with the new curriculum”, reflects Mark. As he departs SJDT, Mark wishes the SJDT community well with the hope that SJDT’s school and dance productions will continue in his vision for SJDT: to bring together artists and audiences, teachers and students, other organizations and communities in creative practices dedicated to opportunity, inclusion and collaboration in dance.
SJDT ended the 2022 year successfully with its Original San José Nutcracker production, the longest-running live production of The Nutcracker in San José since 1965. The Nutcracker performances from December 9th through December 18th included an abbreviated version of The Nutcracker, called Once Upon A Nutcracker designed specifically for toddlers, preschoolers, and young children. SJDT’s production in October, A Sudden Gust of Wind and other works, featured a mixed repertoire program choreographed by Mark Foehringer.
In addition to its public productions, San José Dance Theatre provides innovative classical ballet and contemporary dance training from beginning to pre-professional levels. SJDT seeks to engage the Silicon Valley community through collaboration with artists, arts organizations, and both government and private sectors to enrich the arts community. For m
